?Fruit cake is a cake that contains dried or candied fruit, nuts, and spices. It is often soaked in alcohol, such as rum.

 2 cups (475 ml) flour
 4 cups (400 ml) sugar
 ½ lb (.2 kg). butter
 5 eggs
 1 tsp (5 ml). nutmeg
 1 tsp (5 ml). cinnamon
 1 tsp (5 ml). cloves
 1 cup (225 ml) applesauce
 2 ¾ cups (300 ml) mixed fruit
 1 cup (225 ml) chopped pecans
 1 cup (225 ml) chopped black walnuts
 1 cup (225 ml) raisins
 ½ cup (125 ml) chopped dates

Preheat oven to 325 degrees (175 C.).

Mix flour, sugar, butter and eggs.

Add remaining ingredients.

Pour into 3 9 inch greased and floured cake pans.

Bake at 325 degrees (175 C.) for 35 minutes or until done.

Cool on racks.
