Grandma’S Spice Cake Recipe

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened2 cups sugar3 eggs1 teaspoon vanilla extract3 cups all-purpose flour1 teaspoon baking powder1/2 teaspoon baking soda1 teaspoon ground cinnamon1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg1/4 teaspoon ground cloves1 cup buttermilkCream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix until well combined. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in three additions, alternating with the buttermilk, mixing until just combined.Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9x13 inch baking pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

 ¾ c butter or shortening
 ¼ ts allspice
 1 c brown sugar
 ¼ ts cinnamon
 1 ea egg
 2 c flour
 ½ c raisins
 1 ts baking soda
 ¼ ts salt
 1 c sour milk
 ¼ ts cloves
 2 ts baking powder
 ¼ ts nutmeg

Cream together butter, brown sugar and egg until light and fluffy.

Stirin raisins, salt and spices.

Add half the flour.

Blend in baking sodaand milk.

Stir in remaining flour and baking powder.

Pour batter intobuttered 8-inch round layer pans or 7 x 12-inch baking dish.

Bake in amoderate oven at 375 degrees for 25 minutes or until top springs back whentouched.
