Yields1 ServingPrep Time15 minsCook Time30 minsTotal Time45 mins

Shish tawook are grilled chicken skewers from the Middle East that have been marinated in yogurt, lemon, and warm spices to produce a flavorful and vibrant kabob.

 200 g Chicken breasts (cubes)
  tsp Salt
  tsp Black pepper
¼ tsp Arabic mixed spice (or All Spice)
  tsp Cinnamon (powder)
 ½ Garlic cloves
 ½ tbsp Yoghurt (full fat)
 ½ tbsp Lemon juice
 ¼ tbsp Olive oil
 Tomatoes (optional)
 Onions (optional)
1

Marinate the chicken using all the spices, crushed garlic, yoghurt, lemon juice and olive oil. If you have the time, let it marinate overnight in the fridge, but in a rush 3 to 4 hours is fine. Tip: It’s best to use your hands to make sure it’s mixed together well.

2

When you skewer, put the cubes next to each other but don’t pack them together tightly.

3

Skewer the onions through the width, and the tomatoes through the core.

4

Put the chicken cubes directly on the BBQ grill and flip them over to cook evenly on all sides. The same goes for the tomato and onion skewers. Note: Cooking time really depends on your grill, but it’s approximately it’s 15-20 minutes for the shish tawook, the onions and tomatoes take a bit longer.
