Mkhalal Lift – Turnip Pickles Recipe

Turnips that have been pickled in vinegar and spice are known as Middle Eastern pickles. They go well with your preferred gyro, falafel, roast chicken, or kebab.

 3 Turnips
 ¼ tsp Salt
 ½ Beetroots
 6 Garlic cloves
 2 Green chili pepper
  cup Salt
 ¾ tbsp Sugar (white)
 ½ cup White vinegar
 10 ½ cup Water

Half peel the turnips by peeling in alternating strips and cut into medium sized cubes.

Put the turnips in a sieve on a bowl, sprinkle some salt on them and mix well. Leave them to sit for one hour to release their water, then wash the turnips to remove any excess salt and put them back on the sieve for 5 minutes.

Fill half the jars with turnips. Then add a few pieces of beetroot, garlic, and a green chili. Repeat the layers to until the jar is full.

Fully dissolve the salt and sugar in the water (boiled), then add the white vinegar. Pour the hot water mixture into the jar making sure to cover the vegetables, then close the jar tightly. Throw away any remaining water mixture.
