The original green bean casserole recipe was created in 1955 by Dorcas Reilly, a home economist at the Campbell Soup Company. The dish was made with cream of mushroom soup, green beans, and fried onions, and was meant to be a quick and easy way to make a side dish. Over the years, the recipe has been adapted and changed by home cooks, but the basic ingredients remain the same.
