INGREDIENTS

  cup Rice (long grain, e.g. Basmati)
  cup Vermicelli ('Shi'riyyeh' in Arabic)
 ¼ tsp Salt
 ¼ tbsp Sunflower oil
  cup Water

INSTRUCTIONS

Heat the oil on high for about a minute. Then add the vermicelli and keep stirring until it goes golden brown – don’t let it burn.

Add the rice and mix very briefly, then add the water (hot) and salt. Bring to a boil, cover, and leave it to cook on low heat (about 10-15 minutes).

Uncover the rice, stir, and cover again leaving it on very low heat for 3-5 minutes.
