Dad's Favorite Sour Pickles RecipeIngredients:1/2 cup white vinegar1/2 cup cider vinegar1/2 cup water1 tablespoon sugar1 tablespoon salt1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper1/4 teaspoon mustard seed1/4 teaspoon celery seed1/4 teaspoon turmeric1/4 teaspoon ground ginger1 clove garlic, peeled and halved1 fresh bay leaf1/2 teaspoon dill seed1/2 teaspoon fennel seed1/2 teaspoon caraway seed2-1/2 pounds pickling cucumbers, scrubbed and trimmedDirections:1. Combine all of the ingredients except the cucumbers in a large nonreactive saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat.2. Add the cucumbers and lower the heat to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, or until the cucumbers are just tender.3. Remove from the heat and let cool to room temperature.4. Transfer the pickles and their liquid to a nonreactive container, cover, and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving. The pickles will keep for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
