Old Fashioned Beef

This is a classic recipe for beef and vegetable soup. It is hearty and filling, and can be easily made in a crock pot or slow cooker. The beef is cooked until it is tender, and the vegetables are cooked until they are soft. This soup is perfect for a winter day, or any day when you need a warm and comforting meal.

 1 lb BEEF ROUND, CUT IN 1 CUBES
 ½ c CHOPPED CELERY
 1 tb MARGARINE
 14 1/2 oz CAN STEWED TOMATOES
 ½ c CHOPPED ONION
 10 oz PK. FROZEN PEAS
 2 qt WATER
 3 ea MED. POTATOES, PEELED, CUBED
 13 1/2 oz CAN BEEF BROTH
 ¼ c A.1. STEAK SAUCE
 ½ c UNCOOKED BARLEY

IN A LARGE HEAVY PAN, OVER MEDIUM HIGH HEAT, BROWN BEEF IN MARGARINE.

ADDONION, COOK UNTIL TENDER.

STIR IN WATER, BROTH, BARLEY AND CELERY.

HEAT TOA BOIL, COVER AND SIMMER ON LOW HEAT FOR 1 HOUR.

ADD TOMATOES, PEAS ANDCARROTS, POTATOES AND STAEK SAUCE, STIRRING TO BREAK UP TOMATOES.

SIMMERCOVERED FOR 30 MINUTES MORE OR UNTIL POTATOES ARE TENDER.
